New Haven, CT – David V. Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of the Mary Wade Home, was recently elected President of the Connecticut Coalition to Improve End-of-Life Care.
“Since its inception 10 years ago, the Coalition has done a remarkable service in promoting compassionate care to those in the dying process and in providing information and support to Connecticut families. It’s an honor for me to be associated with this exceptional health care community,” said Hunter.
Mr. Hunter, the Mary Wade Home’s chief executive officer, has served as the Home’s administrator since 1981. He is responsible for directing the expansion of the Home from a single service provider to a continuum of long-term care and community-based services for the aging and elderly. He is also the president of MWH Holdings, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Home that was established to obtain and retain properties to further expand the mission of the Mary Wade Home.
Hunter is involved in many community health associations, including the Connecticut Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, where he served as a chair of the board of directors and was a recipient of the Association’s Humanitarian Award; the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, where he served on the budget and finance committee and as a Connecticut delegate for the Association; the Institute for Long Term Care Policy, where he served as a chair of the Institute; and the Agency on Aging of South Central Connecticut Interagency Council, where he also served as chair.
The Connecticut Coalition to Improve End-of-Life Care was founded in 1998 to develop a comprehensive approach to improving the care and support of dying patients and their families during the end of life and bereavement periods.
At present there are over 100 members, including government agencies, community groups, schools of nursing, medical schools, long term, home health, and hospice care providers and individuals committed to realizing the Coalition’s mission. The Coalition is actively sponsored by the Connecticut Departments of Social Services and Public Health. It is funded through grants, donations, and membership dues.
The mission of the Connecticut Coalition to Improve End-of-Life Care is to improve the care of people who are dying and their families in the state of Connecticut and to ensure that every individual has information about and access to compassionate, quality end-of-life care.
The Coalition’s primary objectives in fulfilling its mission are to:
- Identify, disseminate and promote education on end-of-life care for health care professionals, the general public and policy makers;
- Encourage the translation of research in end-of-life care into practice;
- Promote effective end-of-life care through public policy.
